Dr. Leah Johnson is working with the Bacterial-Fungal Interactions (BFI) Science Focus Area and National Microbiome Data Collaborative (NMDC). Her dissertation work at Michigan State University focused on plant metabolic and signaling responses to biotic stress such as insects and pathogens. Her research at LANL includes characterizing BFIs to understand how microbial dynamics impact the environment and the host plant under different conditions such as temperature or nutrient stress. She additionally works with the NMDC to translate user feedback into updates to the infrastructure and engages with the research community to promote FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) microbiome data practices.
