Abstract
A non-scintillating plastic sample in the form of a 6-μm-thin film was exposed to a 1-MeV proton beam at dosages ranging from 107 to 109 rad/cm2. The film was found to be luminescent when exposed to ultraviolet light. The intensity of the luminescence is a direct function of the damage to the film and there is no evidence of luminescence on unexposed regions. The luminescence increased to a maximum within 72 h after exposure and remained constant thereafter.
