Abstract

A previously developed theory of fracture toughness is extended so that the plane strain fracture toughness K_IC may be calculated by a simple integration of uniaxial tensile data. K_IC values calculated by this procedure are within 3 per cent of the values obtained by the previous theory for the materials considered.
