Abstract
The lateral mode behavior of quantum-dot lasers was investigated and the absence of filamentation up to 10x threshold was demonstrated. The negative linewidth enhancement factor necessary for this originated from the Coulomb coupling between quantum-dot and quantum-well states. The filament widths were extracted from the measured data by deconvolving the individual filaments within each field and therefore exhibited appreciable variations as indicated by the error bars.
