Abstract
Vertical direction current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of Polypyrrole (PPy) nanotube (diameter of 120 nm) deposited on Au were measured at room temperature using a metal-coated tapping-mode atomic-force-microscope tip. Linear I-V characteristics are observed and resistance from the slope is decreased, as the contact force is increased. Using the Hertz model, the electrical resistivity, ρ, is estimated to be ρ ∼ 1 Ωcm consistent with that of bulk PPy film. In comparison, we report the I-V characteristics of PPy nanotube (diameter of 250 nm) in lateral electrodes configuration. To align the PPy nanotube, we applied the ac electric field across the lateral electrodes patterned on the SiO2 substrate. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
