Abstract

A double dislocation pole model is proposed for deformation twinning in F.C.C. lattice structures. Operation of the twinning source proposed occurs when the passing stress that poses a high energy barrier to the nucleation and growth of a twin is surmounted by thermal activation. Orowan stress barriers are also involved in the twinning process and reduce the twin nucleation and growth rates.
