Abstract
The dynamic deformation, damage evolution, and cracking in four cast gamma titanium aluminide alloys has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The purpose of this study was to examine the dynamic constitutive properties of cast TiAl alloys. Using the measured high-strain-rate constitutive properties, the deformation and damage evolution observed in Taylor cylinder experiments was predicted using finite-element modeling. The utility of Taylor cylinders for validation of high-rate constitutive models for intermetallics is detailed.
