Abstract

We have carried out Monte Carlo simulations using Kawasaki dynamics to study the effect of temperature on the growth kinetics of a circular domain of one degenerate ground state surrounded by a sea of the other degenerate ground state. As predicted by Lifshitz and Cahn-Allen theories, we find that the circular domain shrinks linearly with time as A(t)=A0-αt where A0 and A(t) are the initial and instantaneous areas, respectively. We also find a strong temperature dependence of the slope α for T≳0.6 TC which is tentatively interpreted as being due to roughening fluctuations.
