Abstract
The effect of annealing and plastic deformation on the density and modulus of bulk amorphous Pd40Cu30Ni10P20 was measured. The shear and bulk modulus were measured by resonant-ultrasound spectroscopy. Annealing causes the density and shear modulus to increase, but the bulk modulus remains approximately constant. Following annealing, plastic deformation reduces both the density and shear modulus to their values in the as-quenched samples. A linear relationship was found between the shear modulus and the density. The relative change in the shear modulus is approximately 25 times larger than the relative change in the density. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
