Abstract

It is shown how the binding energy and equilibrium density in EHL (electron-hole liquid) are extracted from the luminescence line shapes. This is followed by the evaluation of ground state energy and equilibrium density for an e-h plasma in an ideal semi-conducting system. Band structure in many semiconductors where e-h liquids have been observed are described. The ground state properties of the system in elemental and compound semiconductors are discussed, along with thermo-dynamic properties. The surface structure of EHL is considered, including some unresolved questions and future directions in EHL and related phenomena.
