Abstract
Voids in spinel can act as perfectly aligned double crystal interferometers. The electron interference patterns can be obtained by using a conventional TEM instrument operating in the convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) mode. The study of the lattice fringes in the 2 beam case and in the case of [111] zone axis patterns (ZAPs), are reported. The (000) disc in CBED ZAPs shows a simple hexagonal pattern with an angular separation of ≈ 10-4 rad. The contrast within the (000) disc depends on the angle of convergence. A method for void size determination in the direction of the beam is presented. © 1984.
