Abstract
The phase and electric field of ultrashort pulses can be retrieved from frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) traces using a method based on genetic algorithms. One such algorithm was applied to polarization-gate and second-harmonic-generation FROG traces, and the results were compared with those obtained using standard iterative composite algorithms.
