Abstract

Experimentally observed 5-fold increase in the modulation bandwidth of strongly injected VCSELs is explained to arise from injection-induced population pulsation. The injected-laser rate-equations reproduce the relevant aspects of modulation experiments on different VCSEL structures. © 2005 Optical Society of America.
