Abstract
A wave-optical laser model coupled to a microscopic gain theory was used to investigate the effects of the active medium on beam quality in InGaN quantum well lasers. It was found that by using a thick quantum well that exhibits strong quantum-confined Stark effect, the filament width can be increased so that fundamental-mode operation is possible high above threshold with relatively wide-striped lasers.
