Giant magnetoelastic effect in multiferroic Ba0.6Sr1.4Zn2Fe12O22

Abstract

We report a giant magnetoelastic effect in multiferroic Ba0.6Sr1.4Zn2Fe12O22 measured by ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy. Coherent phonon excitation allows to measure the fieldinduced changes in the speed of sound and the corresponding elastic stiffness.
