Abstract
The growth of small particles of thoria on heat-treated thin films of SiC has been studied by transmission electron microscopy. Thinned samples are prepared in a form suitable for imaging in the electron microscope and are then heat-treated to remove any surface damage created by the thinning process. The particles of thoria were then grown on the SiC while heating the sample in the presence of thoriated tungsten. © 1991.
