Highly efficient optical gain media based on thick-shell CdSe/CdS nanocrystals with suppressed auger recombination

Abstract

Orders-of-magnitude suppression of Auger decay rates in thick-shell CdSe/CdS nanocrystal quantum dots derives primarily from "smoothing" of the confinement potential within the interfacial alloy layer. These nanocrystals show strong optical gain with an extraordinarily large bandwidth (>500 meV) due to involvement of multiexcitons of very high (>10) orders.
