Abstract
The surface-initiated polymerization is studied using real time infrared spectroscopy with a software package installed to allow the continuous collection of data without user intervention. The infrared absorptions are then qualified using appropriated software to yield kinetic information. The real time infrared spectroscopy is extremely useful in the determination of the kinetic properties of polymerizations taking place at the surface of very small particles. While it seems apparent that the polymerization system is second order in monomer, other aspects of the kinetics of the reaction are unclear.
