Abstract

The light amplification and other optical gain properties of semiconductor nanocrystals, particularly quantum dots and quantum rods, were compared. The elongated nanoparticles were found to provide several beneficial features for lasing operations. In respect with it, the increased optical gain lifetime and extended optical gain spectral range obtained for the elongated nanoparticles were reported.
