Abstract
The geometry of extended jogs on double ribbons is discussed and related to experimental observations made on defects in Cu–16 at% Al. It is shown that the configuration of the double ribbon can change at a jog from one where two intrinsically dissociated dislocations overlap to one where a pair of intrinsically and extrinsically dissociated dislocations lie parallel and adjacent to one another. It is further indicated how such observations can be used to provide the most direct measurement of the line tension associated with a jog‐line or a pair of closely‐spaced stair‐rod partial dislocations.
