Abstract
We present a detailed simulation study of star polymers with many (6 ≤f ≤ 50) arms /. Each arm consists of N. = 50,100, or 200 monomers. In most respects these show good agreement with the asymptotic scaling predictions of the Daoud-Cotton blob model. We report values for the universal ratios characterizing the scattering from such stars. We especially concentrate on many-arm properties and on deviations from recent scaling arguments and describe in detail anomalies in the structure factor. Because typical experimental systems have arm lengths that are on the border line to the asymptotic behavior, we expect that our results are relevant for the interpretation of experiments for both star polymers and micellar solutions. © 1987, American Chemical Society.
