Synchronously pumped subpicosecond dye oscillator-amplifier system.

Abstract

A tunable dye oscillator-amplifier system capable of producing 1-mJ subpicosecond pulses is reported. The oscillator consists of a linear-cavity dispersion-compensated dye laser with separate gain and absorber jets that is synchronously pumped by a CW mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The dye-amplifier that follows is pumped withh the 30-mJ output of a Nd:YAG regenerative amplifier. Unconverted 1.06-μm pulses are regeneratively amplified by a scheme requiring only a single-intracavity Pockels cell. The output is then frequency-doubled in KTP and used to pump a three-stage dye amplifier, modified for subpicosecond amplification by removing the dispersive elements. Output energies of >0.4 mJ are obtained in the 610-650-nm wavelength range.
