Abstract
Oxide nanoparticles of compounds containing cerium ions have a number of applications for catalysis and energy. In the present work crystalline pure and doped cerium oxide (CeO2) and barium cerate (BaCeO3) have been synthesized using a low-temperature aqueous-solution method. The cerium oxide has been doped with gadolinium and lanthanum and the barium cerate has been doped with zirconium and cobalt. Transmission electron microscopy has been performed to determine the structural and chemical nature of the nanoparticles. Observations of surfaces faceting parallel to {001} and {111} are discussed.
