N2 - The shock response of the industrial polymer, Viton-B has been investigated in terms of it's equation of state (shock velocity, shock stress and particle velocity) and it's shear strength. These have been compared to the related materials polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF), whose shock response are known. Results show that Viton-B is more similar to PVDF. It has been suggested that this is a combination of physical strengthening due to tacticity between adjacent polymer chains, and electrical strengthening, due to polarization due to alternating CF2-CH2 units, and additional strengthening from the dangling CF3 side group.
