Abstract

Visualization of the complex structure composed of oriented axons leaving the retina in a loose connective tissue matrix has been carded out in living tissue using white light confocal microscopy. Optical sections were acquired at normal and elevated intraocular pressures. A 3D model of the lamina was produced and techniques were developed to study the effects of intraocular pressure on the structural integrity of the lamina cribrosa. © 2001 SPIE · 1605-7422/01/$15.00.
