Abstract
To probe electron thermalization dynamics, the time-resolved second-harmonic generation (SHG) from gold surface following intense laser excitation was measured. After the laser excitation, an electron temperature dependent enhancement in SHG signal was observed. As a result of this temperature enhancement, thermalization of hot electrons from nonequilibrium to equilibrium states was observed. Hence, by monitoring the time evolution of the SHG signal, the relaxation dynamics of hot electrons were resolved.
