Abstract
It is well recognized that microsegregation during weld solidification can have a strong influence on weld cracking susceptibility, phase equilibria, mechanical properties, and fracture behavior, all of which play a major role in weld performance. Still, little data are available in the literature in which weld microsegregation has been carefully studied. In our work we have chosen several binary alloy systems and weld processes in which to study the mechanics of weld solidification and microsegregation and to determine the important factors which lead to the final degree of alloy segregation.
