Dr. Michael T. Pettes is an experimentalist whose research interests and contributions focus on developing fundamental physical understanding of nanomaterials to impart new functionalities relevant to applications in energy, optical communications, and mechanical performance through new instrument development and advancements in transmission electron microscopy. He is a recognized expert in the development of new nano-electrical-thermal metrology tools for in-situ material characterization especially regarding defect and strain engineering, as well as early implementation of state-of-the-art techniques such as four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy.
